At the VIA Rail station in Brantford, Ontario there's a small median (maybe two or three feet wide) between the mainline tracks, so I set up my video camera and tripod on this median, with the tripods legs set at their lowest elevation. This left the camera positioned about two feet above the tracks. I was a little concerned that the turbulence might knock my tripod over but as it turned out, that wasn't a problem at all. For the second train, I simply turned the tripod around 180 degrees. And NO, I wasn't foolish enough to remain on the median while the trains passed - the camera was remotely-controlled from the safety of the station platform. Enjoy!
