It's as good as they get without going to a professional tripod (I have one but don't use it as it's just too heavy).TAKE NOTE THOUGH - (a previous reviewer clearly didn't know this as most people don't seem to) - all tripods need the camera to be balanced for proper operation. Professional tripods achieve this with a sliding camera mounting plate but I have a better way! I use a six to ten inch length of old lead pipe, flattened, and bent into a hairpin (lead flashing might be better and is easily obtained). Cover it in insulating tape and then wash your hands well to avoid lead poisoning. Then hang it over the metal part of the handle and slide it in for short lenses and out for long ones. It works a treat and needs only the quickest balancing attempt to allow you to slacken off fully the friction lock and get a smooth fluid head effect, with minimum backlash. Final trick - attach a rubber band to the end of the handle and pull on it to pan or tilt in any direction for a smooth start and finish with minimum springback."
